Brunch postponed

We are scheduled to host the next McHen's get together, and we had planned a brunch for Sunday May 23, at 12:30 pm after church. Unfortunately, Doris Davis and her husband had to cancel, and the weather this week which has been so wild, wet and windy appears to be set to continue through the weekend. Since we were planning to do this outdoors on the patio next to the pool this would have made for a soggy mess.

Regretfully, we have called everyone and postponed the get together until after we get back for our long road trip starting next Wednesday. The silver lining is that we shall have lots of stories about our travels and no doubt photos to share.

McHens Event # 3-Sunday, April 26, 2009

The Ericksen's, the McFadyen's and the Noden's met at the home of June Harrris and her daughter Jennie, for the third event of our Dinners for Eight series. We were joined by our new Associate Pastor, Doug Ganyo and his wife Judy.

Over wine and goodies we shared some personal stories, and chatted about current events. After an uplifting grace by Pastor Doug we sat down and began a wonderful dinner prepared by June and Jennie. We began with a fresh spinach salad, and went on to roast loin of port au jus, accompanied by fingerling potatoes and baby carrots. About the time we were all satiated, June came forward with a chocolate cheese cake and after some mock moaning and groaning, we decimated this delicious dessert.

In honor of Doug's presence several tall, ditzy, and racy clergy stories were told to the accompaniment of great laughter around the table. Jennie's new digs on the second floor were examined and pronounced to be truly homelike by all. Jennie noted how pleased she was to be home again in Fernandina Beach after her long adventure in Hawaii, and how much she was enjoying her new teaching position.

The photos above tell the story of the evening as we shared stories and events and life experiences together.

Regrets

Mac,

Do pass along my apologies for not being able to make it to your Dinners of 8. Your April and May dates are occasions when we already have commitments. I know it would have been great fun. Thanks.

The McHen's met again this evening at the McFadyen's house. All "the usual suspects" were present, Don & Karen as hosts, the Ericksen's, June Harris, and the Noden's as guests. Karen had invited Holton and Martha Ann Siegling, but they were away with their boys at DisneyLand in Orlando.

The evening got started with wine and snacks, and was followed by a super buffet supper of pork loins, parsley potatoes, cauliflower in a cheese sauce and fresh tomatoes. The desert was a chocolate mousse. We took our coffee in the living room, and the conversation waxed humorous as we swapped house painting, decorating and fixing stories, and compared notes about the many good workmen we had all employed at one time or another.

The attached photos recorded, but did not do full justice to the warm fellowship of the evening.

The McHens had their first meeting at the Bill and Sally Ericksen's house. In attendance were Bill and Sally Ericksen, June Harris, Don and Karen McFadden, Mac and Barbara Noden, and young Ms Holly, the Ericksen's grand daughter, who has just celebrated her 7th. birthday.

We all sang happy birthday to Holly, and had a wonderful dinner prepared by Sally, that featured a new recipe involving roast pork, roasted potatoes and zucchini. All of this was accompanied by salad and fresh rolls. The scrumptious dessert was chocolate brownies and candied coffee beans from Costa Rica.

The evening's conversation was filled with good humor and life stories that helped us all to get to know one another.
